• Location: St. Louis, Missouri
  • Type: Direct Hire
  • Job #6953

We seek a hands-on DevOps/Cloud Platform Engineer who can design and build cloud architectures from the ground up, translate architectural intent into production-grade infrastructure, and continuously evolve our cloud platforms using modern DevOps practices.

You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of cloud infrastructure from greenfield architecture and foundational platform build-out, through automation, deployment, and long-term optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate cloud infrastructure from the ground up, supporting application development, data engineering, and solution engineering teams.
  • Partner with solution architects and engineering leaders to define cloud-native architectures, then independently translate those designs into fully implemented, production-ready environments.
  • Take ownership of platform-level concerns, including networking, identity and access management, observability, CI/CD pipelines, and environment standardization.
  • Apply strong DevOps principles to ensure infrastructure is automated, repeatable, testable, and version-controlled using infrastructure-as-code.
  • Build and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure cloud platforms that serve as the backbone for healthcare and life sciences solutions, recognizing that reliability and trust are non-negotiable.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for end-to-end cloud architectures across AWS and managed Kubernetes, with deep hands-on experience in at least one.
  • Evolve our cloud playbook by creating and maintaining reusable, well-documented cloud and DevOps patterns that enable teams to move quickly and safely.
  • Research, evaluate, and prototype new technologies, services, and tooling, making evidence-based recommendations for adoption.
  • Design and implement solutions for security, high availability, disaster recovery, and large-scale data streaming, ensuring platforms meet both technical and regulatory expectations.
  • Contribute meaningfully to architectural discussions by providing practical implementation insight, trade-off analysis, and operational perspective.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience designing and building cloud infrastructure, not just maintaining it, on AWS.
  • Demonstrated experience owning cloud architectures end to end, including initial design, foundational build, and ongoing iteration.
  • Strong experience with DevOps toolchains, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release automation.
  • Proven expertise with infrastructure-as-code technologies such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar tools.
  • Deep understanding of cloud architecture principles, including the AWS Well-Architected Framework (or equivalent), with real-world implementation experience.
  • Strong security mindset, with hands-on experience implementing identity, network security, encryption, and least-privilege access.
  • Demonstrated experience building and operating containerized platforms using Docker, Kubernetes, or similar technologies.
  • Strong documentation skills, including experience producing architecture diagrams, runbooks, and documentation-as-code.
  • Experience supporting microservices-based architectures in production environments.
  • Experience in healthcare and/or life sciences is preferred, but not required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, systems analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.
  • 3+ years implementing and maintaining cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure; experience in owning the design of cloud architectures is a plus.
  • Ability to demonstrate the skills and qualifications listed here in a real-time interview setting.
  • Understanding of DevOps tool chains, automated testing frameworks, and continuous delivery processes.
  • Experience developing and deploying solutions leveraging technologies that support infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Ansible, Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.).
  • Understanding of (and experience implementing) cloud architectures based on the five pillars of the AWS Well-Architected framework: operational excellence, security, reliability, performance efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Strong understanding of security is a must.
  • Demonstrable expertise in constructing highly-scalable containerized environments leveraging technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, or similar.
  • Demonstrated background developing robust documentation alongside infrastructure deployments. Experience with documentation-as-code is a plus.
  • Experience working in a healthcare and/or life sciences discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with deploying infrastructure for microservices architectures is preferred.
