Director of Technology

Position Overview

The Director of Technology is responsible for developing and executing the strategic vision for the organization’s technology future. The Director of Technology will lead the IT department to achieve the company’s vision through realistic and measurable initiatives.

Reporting directly to the CEO, this role will collaborate with management and stakeholders across the organization to develop short- and long-term business strategies and articulate the necessary IT support to execute those strategies. This includes partnering with business leaders to manage the distribution and deployment of technology across the organization, building and developing a high-performing IT team, and understanding the impact of technology decisions on growth and profitability.

The ideal candidate will exhibit a high EQ and demonstrate the ability to lead the deployment of creative, robust, scalable, and effective technology services and solutions. Strong technical and operational knowledge of Microsoft 365, networking, security camera systems, and hybrid/cloud environments are critical. The Director of Technology will also ensure alignment with cybersecurity best practices and compliance with applicable federal, state, and international data privacy regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set objectives and strategies for the IT department.
  • Provide top-level management for all IT employees, vendors, and contractors.
  • Define organizational goals and effectively align technology capabilities with business priorities.
  • Align IT capabilities with strategic priorities and business goals.
  • Present and communicate technology strategy to leadership, staff, and other stakeholders.
  • Work with leadership and staff to provide oversight for all technology activities, including reviewing and approving policies, controls, and standards.
  • Advise senior leadership on technology status, risks, cybersecurity, and IT-related business impacts.
  • Establish and maintain deployment, change control, and issue management processes.
  • Ensure a comprehensive security plan is in place to protect the availability, integrity, and privacy of IT infrastructure and data.
  • Provide technical and strategic leadership across security technologies and solutions, including firewalls, network architecture, DLP, EDR, and related technologies.
  • Ensure disaster recovery and business continuity plans are established, maintained, and regularly tested.
  • Oversee identity and access management policies and update them as necessary.
  • Lead reviews of security breaches and incidents, including impact analysis and recommendations to mitigate future vulnerabilities.
  • Translate security incidents and investigations into actionable risk mitigation plans.
  • Ensure security camera systems are optimized, maintained, and functioning effectively throughout the organization.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • 10+ years of technology experience, including demonstrated leadership of technology within private equity, venture capital, commercial real estate, or a similar environment.
  • Strong technical and leadership experience across IT infrastructure, cloud operations, security systems, and cybersecurity.
  • Experience planning, designing, developing, implementing, and managing IT and cloud systems.
  • Proven background optimizing infrastructure, technology processes, and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to enable business solutions while maintaining appropriate risk management and security controls.
  • Strong analytical and data-driven problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with the CEO, executive leadership, peers, and employees.
  • Strong strategic and business mindset.
  • Excellent organizational and leadership skills.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Post-graduate degree (MS, MBA, Ph.D.) highly preferred.
